University Counselor II

Essential functions (job duties):

The University Counselor II in the Ilitch School of Business, Career Planning and Placement Office will report to the Director of the Ilitch School’s Career Planning and Placement Office. The individual in this position will work closely with undergraduate and graduate students and alumni assisting these students with career selection, job search strategies, resume development, improving interview skills and mastering negotiation techniques.

Provide support for the Ilitch School of Business Corporate Mentorship Program (CMP), including working with prospective and current students interested in the CMP and working with current and prospective mentors for the CMP.

Utilizing a mentor/mentee software package assist with the onboarding for mentors and mentees and oversee these relationships over each fall and winter semester.

Develop appropriate programs for the CMP mentors/mentees.

Provide career advising to Ilitch School of Business undergraduate, graduate and alumni and assist these populations with job search strategies, resume development, interviewing skills, salary negotiation, etc.

Cultivate relationships with employers to expand internship and full-time job opportunities for our students.

Present workshops to students on resume building, interviewing techniques, and other career building opportunities.

Utilize Handshake to review and approve resumes, schedule appointments, and share information with employers on upcoming recruiting opportunities.

Additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Master’s degree required in business, education, counseling or related field.

Previous work experience in a career office setting, preferably in higher education.

Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work effectively with a diverse student population.

Knowledge and the ability to use various software packages.

Previous experience in higher education or in a corporate setting

Reliable and innovative and a commitment to working with a dedicated team of colleagues.

Demonstrated excellence in time management and organizational skills.
