Essential functions (job duties):

Job Purpose

Provide deadline-driven project management and a variety of written and designed materials for university-wide development initiatives and projects and programs at the university’s schools and colleges. These include case statements, major donor proposals, executive summaries, white papers and more. Work collaboratively with development professionals and individuals in the academic units to develop integrated fundraising plans and oversee the development of fundraising communications materials. This position reports to the Director, Strategy and Content.

Essential Function % Time

Assist in managing the preparation of a variety of written and designed materials for development initiatives, including case statements, major donor proposals, executive summaries, special letters, briefing materials, reports, and white papers. 20%

Work in partnership with division staff on a range of fundraising, marketing, and donor stewardship materials. Help develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to increase the quality and frequency of communications to all development constituents. 20%

In collaboration with division partners, develop integrated communication and fundraising plans for projects and programs in the academic units and for university-wide initiatives. Help advance collaboration and coordination between teams. 20%

Assist with developing and implementing communication plans for comprehensive fundraising campaign. 15%

Support fundraising activities by contributing to the overall efforts to strengthen communications within the division, across campus and in the community to encourage long-term engagement with Wayne State from diverse audiences. 10%

Provide writing support for upper university administration (President, Vice Presidents, Board of Governors) in the form of speeches, special letters, briefing materials, proposals, and reports. 10%

Perform other related duties as assigned. 5%

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education Bachelor's degree

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a concentration in in English, communications, marketing, or journalism. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted.

Experience Specialist (minimum 5 years of job-related experience)

At least 5 years fundraising and communication experience. Minimum 3 - 4 years of experience with individual proposal writing.

Experience writing in Associated Press style.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Analytical and Presentation Skills: Ability to evaluate, interpret, and present complex information effectively in professionally prepared documents or presentations. Must possess a demonstrated attention to detail in order to achieve a high degree of accuracy.

Teamwork: Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues within the division and other units to gain full understanding of the project and desired outcome; ability to produce high quality and consistent results with assistance of team members; provide support to teammates when tackling complex projects.

Technical Skills: Proficient in the use of complex administrative systems software, preferrably in the higher education environment. Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, especially Word, Excel and Teams. Ability to understand and translate complex concepts into lay terms.

Writing Skills: Ability to conduct research, interview subjects and write materials that are creative and interesting, with strong attention to detail, grammar, and style rules.
