Essential functions (job duties):

Job Purpose

The OPEN Wayne Director leads all OPEN Wayne activities and initiatives, providing strategic vision for the department and defining success metrics. This role manages the OPEN Wayne team, including personnel management and the design and oversight of internal operations. The director will collaborate with school, college and unit-based leadership, faculty, and development professionals to maximize opportunities for sustained partnerships with regional, national, and multi-national companies. This role will direct data collection and analysis related to OPEN Wayne activities, including creating reports and providing recommendations to senior leadership. While this role is not responsible for generating philanthropic resources, it will work closely with corporate engagement colleagues to ensure understanding of the entire corporate portfolio and the opportunities to meet their needs regardless of the financial incentive.

Reports to the Assistant Vice President for Corporate Engagement.

Essential Functions

Define strategic vision for OPEN Wayne in alignment with university strategic goals, including metrics for success. Develop and execute strategic plans to achieve overall vision. Create processes to support department goals. Employ best practices in public/private partnership models to model a customer service philosophy of excellence. Deliver formal reports for board-level review. Manage annual budget, including developing revenue and expense projections, approving expenditures, and monitoring transactions for compliance with university policies and procedures.

Manage direct reports (including hiring, mentoring, coaching, accountability, and performance evaluation). Evaluate opportunities and delegate work accordingly. Review and approve assignments as needed. Maintain knowledge of university faculty and research interests, capabilities, and activities. Maintain knowledge of technology, research, and recruiting needs of industry partners. Collaborate effectively with peer leaders in the Office of Economic Development and across the university.

Manage a portfolio of at least 10 current or prospective corporate partners by working with university stakeholders to match current needs to projects, initiatives or priorities that have mutual benefit. Develop and manage relationships through consistent communication and representing OPEN Wayne at relevant events. Make connections to faculty expertise and assist with appropriate access to research centers, institutes, and university programs.

Establish the storytelling mechanisms and channels to communicate the successes of the team, which may include written communication, presentations to university stakeholders, and collaborating with Marketing & Communications colleagues to develop content for newsletters, blogs, and social media.

Oversee tracking, analysis, and reporting of relevant metrics using the Fundraising Performance Management System and utilize data to communicate value across the team and leadership in collaboration with Deans and key stakeholders in Career Services, Office of Research, and others.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Bachelor's degree.

Bachelor's Degree in from an accredited University in Business, Public Administration, Development, Marketing, Communications, Project Management, or related field. Master’s Degree preferred.

Experience

Expert (established subject matter expert, 7+ years experience).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES

Communications Skills:Ability to communicate complex topics including faculty research, leadership priorities and team directives clearly, concisely, and professionally both orally and in writing. Strong interpersonal skills including demonstrated abilities of communicating impact.

Planning and Organization:Ability to manage, prioritize and advance multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining strategy, work plans, portfolio clients and day-to-day activities. Ability to work within deadlines and competing agendas. Strong organizational, time-management and personnel tracking skills.

Analytical and Presentation Skills:Ability to evaluate, interpret, and articulate complex and often technical information effectively in professionally prepared documents or presentations. Must have demonstrated attention to detail to achieve high accuracy and persuasion. Ability to lead discussions with internal and external stakeholders. Proven record of accomplishment of setting metrics and tracking progress of goals.

Technical Skills:Proficient in the use of complex administrative systems software, preferably in the higher education environment. Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Agility:Independent and innovative self-starter who displays an ability to learn quickly and easily adapts to changing situations. Experience researching topics to gain knowledge and understanding when information gaps exist.

Teamwork:Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues within the division and other units to gain full understanding of the project and desired outcome; ability to produce high quality and consistent results with assistance of team members; provide support to teammates when tackling complex projects.

Strategic Planning:Ability to think strategically, define clear and measurable goals to achieve results for short- and long-term plans.

Leadership & Team Management:Ability to manage and oversee the team performance including team member’s cross training, mentoring, conducting performance evaluations. Set team goals and objectives, ensure they align with organizational strategy. Provide strategic direction and leadership to the team, fostering a positive work environment. Provide growth plan for team members and promoting professional development.
